Council Members

Who are we?

John Robinson RD* FMA.

Background: Following graduation from the University of Bristol , John Robinson trained as a museum curator at the City Museums in Liverpool and Glasgow. In 1973, he joined the Science Museum in London to administer a fund supporting the purchase and preservation of industrial and scientific items in local museums. In this capacity, he worked extensively with most of the transport and technology collections in the UK. He was an early recruit to the National Historic Ships Committee and chaired its Technical Committee.

Since retiring from the Science Museum in 1994, he has worked in support of the preservation of historic ships by operation. He serves on the Executive of European Maritime Heritage, the Council of Heritage Afloat and has recently commenced a third term on the Council of the Society for Nautical Research. He sails traditional vessels of all sorts, and holds current qualifications as RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and the MCA Boatmaster Class 3 certificate.
