Who are we?

Secretary

Bernard See M.Ed., C.Eng., M.I.Mech. E, M.C.M.I.

Background: Bernard is a post graduate with chartered memberships and has been active in administration for over 45 years. His maritime interests started in childhood with family connections to Thames Watermen and canals. Holidays were to the Channel Islands – by sea.

During WW2 he worked with flying boats and was also stationed by the Bitter Lake, Suez Canal - where you made your own sailing craft out of whatever you could find, and hoped to get back against the prevailing wind.

As an Education Officer in Cardiff, Bernard was responsible for a college with the Department of Maritime Studies. Their resources included a training vessel (ex inshore minesweeper), a ship’s main diesel engine and a planetarium. They also initiated engine and ship simulators.

During that time PS Waverley made her first visit to the Bristol Channel and Bernard assisted the management of Waverley Excursions Ltd both ashore and afloat. For interest he took the Coastal Yacht Master and Ocean courses. On retirement to the south east he became further involved with WEL in the Thames area.

More recently Bernard became associated with the British Military Powerboat Trust, Marchwood, since dispersed and now they overhaul powerboat engines with the intention of their re-installation in working boats.
